what you need
  • A Jewish calendar to look at
  • A ruler
  • A pencil
  • Colors/ Magic Markers
  • Glue
  • Hole puncher
  • 12 pieces of white or different colored construction paper
  • A photocopied grid 12 times
calendar of Tishrei
what you do
blank calendar
  1. Take a blank piece of paper, your pencil and ruler and create your grid.
    Here's how:
Draw 8 vertical lines, that is going downwards, and 6 horizontal lines, that is going across, equally spaced . You should end up with a grid of 7 squares across and 5 downwards. A total of, yes, 35 squares. Feel free to get a parent or older sibling to help you.

Now get this photocopied 12 times, maybe do a few extra in case you make mistakes.

  2. Beginning with October, as this year Rosh Hashana falls on September 29th, copy out the Hebrew and English dates in different colors: The Hebrew date in the top right hand corner and the English date in the bottom left hand side.

  3. Here's the fun part. Now stick each month's grid on your colored paper, leaving enough space at the top for writing the name of the month in Hebrew and drawing a picture of the Festival that occurs in that month or any picture you like for the months without a Festival. For Cheshvan/November maybe you'll draw or cut out from a magazine, a picture of autumn.

  4. With a hole puncher, punch holes in the top of the calendar, and thread string through the holes to hang it up in your room.

  5. Don't forget to mark family birthdays and special days in special colors so that you can look forward to them.

  6. This would make a great present for someone..
